Handyman & Renovations in East New York

East New York and the blocks around Cypress Hills and City Line are full of one-, two- and three-family houses, a lot of them wood-frame, and homeownership here runs higher than most people outside the neighborhood assume. These are houses people have held for a long time and intend to keep, which means maintenance work rather than flips.

The buildings here

What we’re usually working on

One- to three-family houses, much of it wood-frame, often re-clad at some point in vinyl or aluminum siding.

Detached and semi-detached stock with side paths, driveways and small yards — straightforward access for materials.

New mid-rise development along the Atlantic and Pitkin Avenue corridors following the 2016 rezoning.

Low-lying blocks toward Spring Creek and Jamaica Bay with genuine flood exposure.

Common jobs

What East New York calls us for

  • Repairing what's behind failing siding — sheathing, trim, window surrounds
  • Kitchen and bathroom renovation in long-held family houses
  • Rental unit turnover in two- and three-families
  • Basement and cellar moisture work
  • Handrails, lighting and step-free entries for owners aging in place

The siding is the thing to watch

A wood-frame house wrapped in vinyl looks maintenance-free, and that's the trap. Water gets in at a seam, a window head or a bad flashing detail and then runs down the sheathing behind the siding for years without ever showing on your wall inside. By the time there's a stain in the bedroom the framing has been wet for a long while. If your house is clad and you've never had anything opened up, that's worth looking at before it's worth fixing.
